Kit: best if automations matter most
Kit (formerly ConvertKit) is email marketing built for creators. Its core strength is organizing subscribers with tags and sending them through automated sequences, so someone who downloads a podcast guide can get different follow-ups than someone who joins from a YouTube video. It also includes landing pages and signup forms, so you don't need a website to start collecting emails.
Choose Kit if: you plan to sell to your audience later and want welcome sequences and segmentation from day one.Think twice if: you mainly want a polished newsletter with a public web archive; that's beehiiv's home turf.
beehiiv: best if the newsletter is the product
beehiiv was built for newsletters. Each post can be sent by email and published on a web page at the same time, which gives you a searchable archive. It focuses on helping newsletters grow, with features such as a recommendation network, which is included on the free plan (beehiiv.com/pricing, checked 2026-10-10).
We plan to use beehiiv for our own newsletter and will add first-hand notes once we have them.
Choose beehiiv if: you're starting a weekly or daily newsletter and want it to look and read like a publication.Think twice if: you need complex funnels or a checkout for your own products.
Systeme.io: best if you're selling something now
Systeme.io is an all-in-one platform: email marketing, sales funnels, online courses, and checkout pages. For someone selling an ebook, template, or small course, that can replace several separate tools.
Choose Systeme.io if: you have (or will soon have) a product and want one login for the funnel, payments and follow-up emails.Think twice if: you only want a newsletter. A tool that does many things is usually less specialized at each one.
A simple way to decide
- Newsletter first? beehiiv.
- Audience first, products later, with automations? Kit.
- Selling a product now? Systeme.io.
Pick the best fit for the next six months, not forever. Before committing, check each tool's export options in its help center.
Connect it to your other apps: to pass new subscribers into a spreadsheet, CRM or store without copy-pasting, Make.com can connect them visually. Its free plan includes 1,000 credits a month and 2 active scenarios (make.com/en/pricing, checked 2026-10-10).
Kit's free plan and automations: a note
Kit's own pages disagree. Its pricing page and its "The Kit Free plan" help article list visual automations and email sequences as paid features. An older help article on the "Newsletter Plan" says free accounts get 1 basic visual automation and 1 email sequence. Details in our Kit free plan guide.
